Astonishing X-Men Vol. 1: Gifted > Customer Review #3:
Astonishing Storytelling

The Astonishing X-Men: Gifted arc is truly astonishing. This is a continuation of Morrisons New X-Men storyline. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;Scott Summers and Emma Frost reform the X-Men teaming up with Kitty Pryde, Logan, and Dr. Hank McCoy. They get rid of their older costumes in Morrisons New X-Men and replace them with updated versions of their older 70s costumes. Their main purpose is to become superheroes again and just to help out in the community. lt;br /gt;Meanwhile, a "cure" has developed by Dr. Kavito Rao and a mysterious alien named Ord of the Breakworld, who has a lot to do with an X-Man thought dead. lt;br /gt;The X-Men react to this "cure" as offensive. "Maybe I should just kill her," Emma Frost said. Killing isnt an X-Mans way. And some of the dialogue Emma says made me question where her true loyalties are. Miss Frost and Kitty Prydes constant bickering and tension were realistic as well as funny. lt;br /gt;I loved the brief battle among the X-Men and Ord. Lockheed, Prydes alien-dragon friend, came in with an awesome entrance and saved the night! "Hell, I think we should make him team leader," Wolverine quoted. lol lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;This story arc comes with full of surprises, emotion, and funnyness. Whedon stays true to the characters and continuity as well. Scott, my all time favorite hero, is still depicted as the great leader hes always been. lt;3 I loved tension of him and Emmas relationship. And Logan is actually not the main character in the story, which is a good thing. We finally get a break of Logan being the big heroine and stuff. Nevertheless, hes still the Wolverine and does the best at what he does. It seems as though this soryline focuses on Kitty Pryde, which is unusual. Her reaction to the resurrection of an X-Man thought dead was very emotional and amazing. But dont get me wrong, every X-Man in this story has an equally fair amount of attention. Beasts interest to the cure was interesting and made me sit on the edge of my seat to see if hell take the cure. And at the end of issue #6, Emma Frost is talking to an unseen character. Hmm...who could that be? *revealed in issue #12* lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;And for the artwork: ASTONISHING!! The facial expressions, costumes, and coloring were just totally astonishing! It never felt rushed or half-a**ed. It was a perfect depiction of Whedons storytelling. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;This book is full of adventures, surprises, and drama. Definitely worth the time and money to read. 5/5 lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;As Stan Lee would say, NUFF SAID!!!
