Bad Boy
Walter and his family live in Harlem New York. They think Harlem is a very unique place because of the people and the music going on in Harlem. Walter likes all sports and school but has a tendency to get into trouble. Growing up in Harlem with a poor family made Walter realize the racial and class struggles that surround him during his life. When I read the book I liked how the author could relate the situations in the book to the real life problems that are happening around us in 2006. I would recommend this book to anyone that enjoys reading about history but also having fun reading it. This book does not have a very hard reading level and word-choice so it would be good for ages 8 to 12. I think some equally good books are River thunder and when Zachary beaver comes to town.

A Motivating Memior !!!!!!!!
Bad Boy is a motivating memoir in many ways. wriiten by Walter Dean myers, this book has positive values and an interesting story. i really loved it because the book had situations which i could relate to easily. for instance "Walter, go directly to the principals office!" go to the principals office was a very familuar statement to me when i was young.
lt;br /gt;
lt;br /gt;young walter roams the neighbhoods of Harlem of New York. in the 1950s and 60s as a curious and intellegent young boy. the book has multiple settings but a good portion is in Brooklyn and the other parts in New York.
lt;br /gt;
lt;br /gt;walter himself is the obvious main character. as a child he was adventurous but very prone to peer pressure at school. At home he loved to read. as he grew up throughout the book he gaines maturity and intellegence along with some responsibility as any growing person does. As we all know walter dean myers, being an African American auther, has dark skin. He also has dark brown eyes and is around six feet tall.

Bad Boy Book Review
lt;br /gt;
lt;br /gt;"Walter, go directly to the principals office!" Not again. In the book Bad Boy Walter Dean Myers writes about his life in Harlem, New York. He is a high school drop-out. He is very smart and loves to read and write poems and stories. I enjoyed this book very much because it shows life was like for African Americans in the 1940s and 1950s.
lt;br /gt;In this story the setting is very important. Walter lives in New York City. The part of his life that you will read about in Bad Boy is in the 1940s and 1950s, during World War 2. He is about 15 or 16 years old. Walter goes to Stuyvesant High school. Sometimes instead of going to school, Walter wanders off into Central park where he reads and writes all day until he has to go home.
lt;br /gt;In this book there are many interesting characters. First of all there is Walterss mom and dad, which he was never really close to. Eric was Walterss best friend in middle school. One day Walter saves a guy named Frank who was being beat up by a gang. They become best friends. At his high school his counselor tells him to go to a psychologist. The psychologists name is Dr. Holiday.
lt;br /gt;The themes in the book make it very realistic. Frank shares all of his secrets with Walter which shows how trustworthy Walter is. This story is sometimes depressing because Walter gets picked on a lot by other kids because of his speech problem. Walter is extremely loyal to Frank. He is also brave because sometimes he gets into fights with 3 or 4 people against only him!
lt;br /gt;This book teaches you that there is no difference what color you are. It also shows you how black people lived and worked and lived compared to white people. Back then white people got all the good jobs in the city, and black people got all the low paying jobs. This book is a good example of how life was like back then in Harlem, New York. It is also a good example of loyalty, trust, and bravery. I enjoyed Bad Boy very much and I hope you will too.
