 Not really a Robot at all
The authors introduction goes into detail about the orgin and definition of the word Robot and how it applies to this Showbot project. However, the machine outlined in this book is not a robot in that it has no onboard sensing or decision circuitry at all. It is a remote controlled roving person shaped device complete with vacuum cleaner and beverage dispenser. If thats what your looking for this is a great book, but if you want to learn about robots capable of autonomous actions, look around some more - I recommend Programming Robot Controllers or Building Robot Drive Trains both from the Robot DNA series or even Robot Building for Beginners as a better starting point.

 Good book - a little dated
I have the original version of this book from the 1980s and the new printing hasnt changed much. The photos have been cleaned up and the new cover is nice. The design of the robot is relatively low-tech but its a good starting point if youve never built a robot.

this is a good book for those who r starting out with robot building it will also be helpful to those who are slightly experienced but do not have the technical background required for building advanced robots.
