Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) > Customer Review #1:
Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince By: J.K. Rowling

I would recommend this book to anyone that likes a lot of action, suspense, a good plot, magic, a suspenseful conflict, and some very unique vocabulary. I would also recommend this book to people that are from 7-15 years old. Plus, I would recommend it to people who like some of the other Harry Potter books as well.I liked this book a lot. I liked this book because of the fact that it has quite a lot of unique vocabulary, a lot of action, and tons of suspenseful events that happen in the story.

Of all the....

Of all the HP books, this is my least favorite. It used to be Chamber of Secrets, but this one just surpassed it. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;I was quite disappointed. I even pre-ordered the book in anticipation of a continuation of the high point that was OotP. For me, OotP while overly long, was infinitely better than this book. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;I read it immediately when I got it, and re-read it because I may have been mistaken. After all, books 1,3,4,5 were quite good enough for me. There were parts that I liked, the whole Voldemort history and the unexpected demise of a major character. But other than that, everything else felt so off. I cannot shake the feeling that something is not what it seems. So many ideas from previous books were set aside, characters that degenerated or suddenly thrust into the forefront.... lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;I write this review now because after thinking and carefully reading it. I still come to the same conclusion. Finally, I understood what some of my friends were saying about this book. Too much hype for so little substance. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;I just hope that the author will have the time and the pages to explain the inconsistencies of this book with the rest of the series in the last book. I think if she were able to write the first five books, she could surely accomplish a finale worthy of all the fame and fortune this series gave her. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;Of course, I am just one reviewer, and this is just one opinion. Yet, this book clearly dampened my enthusiasm for the series. Pre-ordering the next book? Not in this lifetime. lt;br /gt;

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (Book 6) > Customer Review #3:
Whats wrong with you people???

I am equally shocked by those whose five-star reviews state that this is the greatest book of all times, and those who one-start reviews suggest that this book is very depressing. In fact, this book cannot even be judged on true merit, because all it has is sad evidence of the authors loss of interest for the series. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;While some episodes and details in this book are written with Ms. Rowlings usual charm and inventiveness, the book simply doesnt hold. The beginning is not only plain boring, but makes those of us who werent good enough to re-read all the previous parts just before reading this one, to strain our memories to remember the identities of the characters that didnt play much role in the previous parts but are given a large word count in this most fortunate installment of the bestselling series. Pardon the long sentence. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;I was glad to be back at Hogwarts, but couldnt help being annoyed at the sudden change of characters that made Ron, Harry, and Hermione, seem like two-dimensional sketches of their formerly charming selves. Masterfully written episodes are interspersed with disappointments that make the book as a whole seem slow and boring at best. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;The books ends with an unexpected tear-jerker, involving a major death that makes the insuspecting readers feel cheated. This is in sharp dissonance with the spirit of the series, making the book a poor resemblance of trash novels and mass production movies, where the main character loses everything, sheds all mortal bonds, and rides off into the sunset to do vengeance. Such a turn is quite disappointing when seen in the Harry Potter series that has been so enjoyable, and so different, before. It almost seems that the horrific ending was added as an afterthought, to make the readers snap out of their boredom and shed tears for Ms. Rowlings fading interest with the series. lt;br /gt; lt;br /gt;I cant seem to see a way to repair the damage in the much anticipated book 7. If the author doesnt care anymore -- why should we???
