Customer Review #1:
Disappointing next installment in the "LEAGUE" saga!
Im not sure whether this one was written after the script for the lackluster film adaptation of the first adventure, but it seems as though Moore, like the film makers, tried to throw everything (including the kitchen sink) in this one: sex, betrayal, gratuitous violence, merciless alien hordes, biological warfare, and genetic engineering. Wherein the first installment was a fresh and original concept, banding together fantasy/sci-fi greats as a superhero team to thwart a super villain, this one limps along from one frame to another, with little to hold the readers interest. Taking on H.G.Wells, one of my all-time favorite authors, might have been too much for the author to tackle. Perhaps, Im a bit of a prude but the inclusion of the May-December bedroom romp between two of the team members was a little too much for my tastes. Because of the limited appearance of Capt. Nemo, he might as well not have appeared in the issue all together. I expected much more this time around!

Customer Review #2:
Wonderfully entertaining take on the Wells story
This book, a sequel to Alan Moores initial series recounting the rise of the League, is a feast for both the eyes and the mind. In it, Moore pits his group of famous fictional figures (some heroic, others anything but) against H. G. Wells Martian invaders. While the second volume lacks some of the freshness and character development of the original, it is nonetheless a great read, balancing an extraordinary faithfulness to his source material (especially Wells book) with Moores imaginative concepts and intriguing characterizations - and with an ending that offers a brilliant twist on the original story. In offering this tale Moore is ably complimented by Kevin ONeill, whose artwork offers a lush visualization of Moores alternate Victorian Britain. Like the first volume, the panels are loaded with visual references to the fantastic literature of the previous centuries, suggesting that the extraordinariness of this world is not limited to the central characters. Deciphering the references - which has sparked much discussion on the Web - is part of the enjoyment of reading this book, and it left me amazed at the breadth of both Moores and ONeills range of reading. It is only one of the many ways in which the reader is rewarded when delving into this fantastic work.

Customer Review #3:
Simply extraordinary
I think we have a problem here. Amazon is mixing up reviews of different versions of The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen. The comic books and the novelization of the crummy movie version should not be lumped together. Anyway, what I am reviewing here is The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol. 2, which is the second volume of the comic book series. This is the League version of War of the Worlds (you know, with the Martian invaders). I dont want to give away the plot, but its great and extremely well executed. If you liked the first volume of the League, you will want to read this volume, too.
